Craniosacral therapy is a non-invasive, hands-on therapy that uses light touch to manipulate the craniosacral system, which includes the bones, fluids, and tissues surrounding the brain and spinal cord. By releasing tension and improving the flow of cerebrospinal fluid, Craniosacral Therapy can help relieve pain, reduce stress, and improve overall body function.

About Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a type of bodywork that involves a gentle, non-invasive approach to manipulate the craniosacral system in order to improve the functioning of the central nervous system. The craniosacral system is comprised of the brain, spinal cord, and cerebrospinal fluid, as well as the membranes and bones that surround and protect them.

CST is based on the premise that the craniosacral system has its own rhythm, which can be felt by a trained therapist. This rhythm is thought to be related to the health and vitality of the entire body. By using gentle touch and manipulation, a CST therapist can identify and release restrictions or tension in the craniosacral system, which can help to improve overall body function and relieve pain and discomfort.

Origins of Craniosacral Therapy

The origins of CST can be traced back to the early 1900s, when Dr. William Sutherland, an osteopathic physician, began to explore the potential for manipulating the craniosacral system to improve health. Over the years, CST has evolved into a recognized form of bodywork, with practitioners worldwide.

Benefits of Craniosacral Therapy

One of the key benefits of CST is its ability to promote relaxation and reduce stress. When the craniosacral system is functioning optimally, it can help to regulate the body's stress response and promote a sense of calm and wellbeing. This can be particularly helpful for people dealing with chronic stress, anxiety, or other conditions that impact the nervous system.

CST has also been shown to be effective in treating a wide range of physical conditions, including headaches, neck and back pain, chronic fatigue, and fibromyalgia. By releasing restrictions in the craniosacral system, CST can help to improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and promote healing in the body.
